Xaver E. Schutti

Xaver E. Schutti, Jahrgang 2007, spielt seit seinem sechsten Lebensjahr Trompete. Sehr früh kamen außerdem die Beschäftigung mit Electronics sowie die Ausbildung an der Barocktrompete hinzu. Bereits im Jahr 2021 trat er mit seinem Soloprojekt für Trompete und Electronics erstmals öffentlich auf, auch Kompositionen für Ensembles, aber auch für größere Besetzungen entstanden in jungen Jahren und wurden unter anderem vom Outreach Orchestra uraufgeführt sowie auf Ö1 gesendet. Mentorinnen und Mentoren wie Marianne Mendt (MM Jazzfestival), Hannah Crepaz (Osterfestival Tirol), vor allem aber Franz Hackl (Outreach Festival) förderten ihn von Anfang an. In weiterer Folge durfte er mit internationalen Jazzgrößen wie Leo Genovese, Adam Holzman, Gene Pritsker, Dave Taylor, John Clark und Craig Harris auf der Bühne stehen.

Im Alter von 19 Jahren schloss er sein Studium der Jazztrompete am Mozarteum/Standort Innsbruck bei Martin Ohrwalder mit Auszeichnung ab. Er wirkte an der Realisierung mehrerer Großprojekte mit, etwa „Miles & Gil – The Orchestral Work“, „Epitaph“ (Charles Mingus, Ltg. Titus Engel) und „437 Hertz“ (Wolfgang Mitterer, UA).
Ergänzend besuchte er zahlreiche internationale Masterclasses und Summerschools. Jason Palmer, Philip Dizack, Alexandra Ridout, Alex Sipiagin, Gerald Clayton sind nur einige der Musiker:innen, von denen er lernen durfte und die ihn inspirierten. Zu nennen ist aber auch Nils Petter Molvær, der abseits der üblichen Förderungsstrukturen wichtige Impulse gab. Xaver Schuttis weiterer Weg führt ihn ab 2026/27 an die Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London.

Als Mitglied des Sam Siefert Ensemble Project ging er mit 14 Jahren zum ersten Mal auf Tour in Deutschland und Österreich und nahm mit der Band zwei Studioalben auf. Eine weitere Tour folgte 2025.
Mit RAUPE, seinem aktuellen Bandprojekt (zwei Drumsets, Bass-Saxophon/Electronics, Trompete/Electronics), stand er zuletzt im Treibhaus Innsbruck und beim Outreach Festival Schwaz auf der Bühne.
In seinem Soloprojekt für Trompete, Barocktrompete und Electronics verbindet er typische Elemente des Jazz mit zeitgenössischer Musik und synthetischen Klängen. Die Barocktrompete löst Xaver Schutti aus ihrem üblichen historischen Kontext und integriert Klangfarbe und historische Spieltechniken in den modernen Sound seiner Musik. Mit diesem Projekt war er bereits auf zahlreichen Bühnen und Festivals zu Gast, zuletzt bei den Klangfarben Kufstein, noiz//elektrorauschen, Klangspuren Schwaz, Outreach Festival, Treibhaus Innsbruck.
Andere Projekte umfassen die Einladung des Kammerorchesters Innstrumenti, das Werk „Stages of Emergence“ (Ralph Schutti) als Solotrompeter (Trompete, Barocktrompete, Electronics) zu realisieren, sowie die regelmäßige Mitwirkung an interdisziplinären Kunstprojekten.

Xaver E. Schutti, born in 2007, has been playing the trumpet since he was six years old. He also began exploring electronics and studying the baroque trumpet at a very early age. In 2021, he made his public debut with his solo project for trumpet and electronics; he also composed pieces for ensembles and larger groups at a young age, which were premiered by the Outreach Orchestra and broadcast on radio. Mentors such as Marianne Mendt (MM Jazz Festival), Hannah Crepaz (Osterfestival Tirol), and above all Franz Hackl (Outreach Festival) supported him from the very beginning. He subsequently had the opportunity to share the stage with international jazz greats such as Leo Genovese, Adam Holzman, Gene Pritsker, Dave Taylor, John Clark, and Craig Harris.

At the age of 19, he graduated with honors from the Mozarteum University in Innsbruck, where he studied jazz trumpet with Martin Ohrwalder. He has participated in several orchestral projects, including “Miles & Gil – The Orchestral Work,” “Epitaph” (Charles Mingus, conducted by Titus Engel), and “437 Hertz” (Wolfgang Mitterer, world premiere).
In addition, he has attended numerous international masterclasses and summer schools. Jason Palmer, Philip Dizack, Alexandra Ridout, Alex Sipiagin, and Gerald Clayton are just a few of the musicians from whom he had the opportunity to learn and who inspired him. Also worth mentioning is Nils Petter Molvær, who provided important inspiration. Starting in 2026/27, Xaver Schutti will continue his studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London.

As a member of the Sam Siefert Ensemble Project, he went on his first tour of Germany and Austria at age 14 and recorded two studio albums with the band. Another tour followed in 2025.
With RAUPE, his current band project (two drum sets, bass saxophone/electronics, trumpet/electronics), he most recently performed at the Treibhaus in Innsbruck and at the Outreach Festival in Schwaz.
In his solo project for trumpet, baroque trumpet, and electronics, he combines typical elements of jazz with contemporary music and synthetic sounds. Xaver Schutti takes the baroque trumpet out of its usual historical context and integrates its timbre and historical playing techniques into the modern sound of his music. With this project, he has already performed at numerous venues and festivals, most recently at Klangfarben Kufstein, noiz//elektrorauschen, Klangspuren Schwaz, Outreach Festival, and Treibhaus Innsbruck.
Other projects include an invitation from the Innstrumenti Chamber Orchestra to perform the work “Stages of Emergence” (Ralph Schutti) as solo trumpeter (trumpet, baroque trumpet, electronics), as well as regular participation in interdisciplinary art projects.
